Rabbits Live In Amazon Rain Forest

Do Rabbits Live In The Tropical Amazon Rainforest

When we decided to raise rabbits on our hobby farm in Pennsylvania, we knew our rabbits would feel right at home and not suffer from a strange or challenging climate. This is because the natural environments of wild rabbits in North America include deserts, grasslands, temperate forests, and snowy tundra.

That means rabbits can handle the warm summers and cold winters of the East Coast with relative ease, but you may wonder if there are bunnies in the tropical Amazon rainforest or can rabbits live in rainforests?

You would be hard pressed to find a wild rabbit in the Amazon Rainforest. However, there is one rabbit species native to Indonesia that lives in the mountainous rainforest of the Barisan Mountains!

Other common questions about rabbits’ natural homes include:

Do Rabbits Live In The Tropical Rainforest?

While there may have been rabbit ancestors that hopped around tropical rainforests, these types of climates are not a rabbit’s preferred or natural home now.

Tropical rainforests contain almost an unlimited amount of rabbit predators as well as a very hot and wet climate that rabbits would struggle to survive in as rabbits don’t sweat

Do Rabbits Live In The Jungle?

Rabbits have spread across the globe and can be found in a number of different habitats. This includes dry jungles or forests such as those of the Mexican cottontail.

Where Do Rabbits Live In The Forest?

Rabbits make and live in underground burrows in dry forests and in the Barisan Mountains of Indonesia. This may be at the base of a tree, shrub, or in another well-hidden location.

Dry forests include temperate forests, subtropical dry forests, and tropical dry forests.

Rabbit’s natural affinity for burrows is why your homestead or pet rabbits love their den, house, other private and dark space!

What Do Bunnies Eat In The Rainforest?

Rabbits are herbivores and, no matter if they are rabbits in the rainforest of the Barisan Mountains or the temperate forests of Pennsylvania, eat only plant foods such as grasses and herbs that are high in fibers.

This is why the best diet for your bunnies is hay and grasses with some added quality pellets and veggies!

Final Thoughts on
Do Rabbits Live In The Tropical Amazon Rainforest

No matter your location..well, other than Antarctica…you can raise rabbits!

We suggest that, especially because being wet isn’t good for your rabbit, those in wet and hot tropical or rainy climates create an indoor living space for the rabbit. This will keep them dry, happy and healthy!

As for rabbits being raised or kept as pets in grasslands, forests, or temperate regions, an indoor living house is optional. Wild rabbits have been thriving in these habitats for years, and as such your domestic rabbit will have no issues with the climate of these places and can be kept in an outdoor rabbit hutch or house.
